Duane L. Berlin
Of Counsel
Duane Berlin has practiced business law for more than over 30 years, advising
clients on corporate, securities and commercial matters, representing
investors, entrepreneurs and businesses at all levels of development.
His areas of expertise span private equity, public securities laws, mergers
and acquisitions, commercial contracts, marketing and privacy law. Duane
is listed in the Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers
as an AV Preeminent attorney.
Born in Norwalk, Connecticut, Duane received his bachelor's degree
from Brandeis University in Philosophy and Politics in 1980 and his Juris
Doctorate,
Cum Laude, from the University of Miami in 1983, where he served as an associate
editor of the University of Miami Law Review and a member of the Society
of the Wig and Robe. Duane also completed studies at Harvard's John
F. Kennedy School of Government. Duane was admitted both to the Connecticut
State and U.S. District Court, District of Connecticut in 1984. Prior
to Lev Berlin & Sousa, Duane was with Cummings & Lockwood.
Duane has served as General Counsel for the Counsel of American Survey
Research Organizations since 1998, Non-Public Arbitrator for the National
Association of Securities Dealers since 2004, member of the International
Association of Privacy Professionals since 2005, a Licensed U.S. Coast
Guard Captain since 2007, and member of the Board of Directors for The
Roper Center for Public Opinion Research since 2011.
Duane is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association and American Bar Association,
with focuses in the Corporations, Banking and Business Law, Science and
Technology Law Sections, having served on the Business Law, Private Equity
and Venture Capital, Privacy and Computer crime, and E-Privacy Law Committees,
and having founded and co-chaired the Regional Bar Association Privacy
Law Committee in Stamford, Connecticut.
